Ethical Adoption & Sourcing Policy
Our Philosophy
At Dog It Up, we believe that bringing a pet home is never a casual purchase or a simple transaction. It is an emotional decision, a family commitment, and the beginning of a lifelong bond. Every animal deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and responsibility, and every pet parent deserves to make this decision with complete clarity, honesty, and guidance. Our Ethical Adoption & Sourcing Policy is built to protect the welfare of the animal first, while also helping families make informed, conscious, and responsible choices.
A Legacy Rooted in Compassion
Dog It Up is built on a legacy that began with a simple but powerful vision: animals deserve the same standard of care, attention, and medical support as humans. That vision started decades ago with a deep commitment to veterinary care and responsible treatment of animals, and over the years it evolved into a broader purpose — to create a more ethical, transparent, and compassionate ecosystem for pet parenting in India. Our policies are shaped by this legacy and by the belief that the process of bringing a pet home should be guided by care, not commerce.
No-Display Commitment
Dog It Up follows a strict No-Display Policy. Puppies and kittens are never displayed in shops, cages, stalls, or commercial showrooms for sale. We do not believe animals should be presented as display items or impulse-purchase commodities. Pets associated with Dog It Up remain in safe, familiar, and stress-free home environments until they are carefully matched with a suitable family. This approach is intended to reduce stress on the animal, preserve a more natural environment, and encourage thoughtful adoption rather than rushed decision-making.
Ethical Sourcing Standards
Dog It Up works only with verified home breeders and responsible ethical sources that align with our welfare-first values. We do not support commercial mass breeding, puppy mills, high-volume farm breeding, or any source that prioritises output over the health, comfort, and humane treatment of the animal. We reject unethical procurement channels, unverified supply chains, and any arrangement where the living conditions, parent care, health practices, or breeding ethics are questionable. Our objective is to create trust through responsible sourcing and to ensure that every placement begins with integrity.
Home-Bred and Home-Raised Approach
Where applicable, we prioritise pets that are raised in home environments rather than in commercial facilities. A home-raised environment helps support early social comfort, improved care, responsible handling, and better emotional conditions during the earliest stage of life. We strongly value environments where the animal receives individual attention, routine care, and humane management alongside proper observation of health and behaviour.
Responsible Placement Over Fast Placement
Dog It Up does not believe in instant procurement or rushed placement. Our focus is not on placing a pet quickly; it is on placing the right pet in the right home. Before any adoption or reservation is finalised, we evaluate important factors such as breed compatibility, household readiness, lifestyle suitability, available space, previous experience with pets, travel routines, presence of children or elderly family members, and the family’s preparedness for long-term care, training, and financial responsibility. We believe this careful approach helps reduce future distress, mismatched placements, and avoidable rehoming.
Breed Compatibility and Family Suitability
Not every breed is suitable for every family, and not every family is prepared for the needs of every breed. For this reason, Dog It Up places strong emphasis on breed compatibility and lifestyle matching. We encourage families to understand the breed’s typical temperament, exercise needs, behavioural tendencies, grooming demands, sensitivity, social requirements, and living-space suitability before making a final decision. Our role is not only to help families bring a pet home, but also to help them bring home the right pet responsibly.
Informed Pet Parenting
We believe that a responsible pet home begins with education. Before a family proceeds with adoption, Dog It Up may provide guidance related to breed nature, puppy or kitten care expectations, feeding habits, routine health support, grooming requirements, emotional bonding, socialisation, training basics, and long-term adjustment. We encourage all prospective pet parents to ask questions, seek clarity, and understand the full scope of pet parenting before making a commitment.
Animal Welfare Comes First
At every stage of the process, the welfare of the animal remains our highest priority. If at any point Dog It Up believes that a proposed placement may not be appropriate, safe, stable, or in the best interest of the pet, we reserve the right to delay, decline, or refuse the placement. This may happen even after discussion has taken place if concerns arise regarding home readiness, expectations, treatment standards, transparency, or overall suitability. Our decisions are guided by responsibility, not pressure.
Commitment to Ethical Adoption Culture
Dog It Up is committed to restoring responsibility and integrity in a space that has, in many cases, become overly commercialised and diluted. Too often, pet procurement today is driven by urgency, aesthetics, or trend-based demand rather than by health, background, compatibility, and long-term commitment. We are here to advocate a better way — one that is humane, transparent, and built on respect for both the pet and the family. Through our policies, guidance, and values, we aim to plant the seeds of conscious pet ownership and contribute to a more ethical pet culture in India.
